i'm doing it tonight because of this story.

she called me yesterday,
just moved into her house,
i was out and running around austin, she lives in new orleans...

anyways... trying to set up her router,
its a linksys so i figure i can walk her through it.... cause its REALLY hard.

she couldn't get the wireless running, said that her roomate had been using it all semester,
so i said okay, type in 192.168.1.1 and lets check it out..
get the passwords in, but what i told her to click wasn't there. damn, must be a newer firmware, guess i can't troubleshoot anymore...
(bout half hour on the phone to get her this far due to questions like whats an ip, and i swear 'google didn't do anything when i gave it the numbers' --- thats why i said put it in the address bar.)

couple hours later she calls back,
saying she got the ethernet working, but not the wireless,
again , i tell her to call linksys... but no she won't,
apparently never talked to tech support before.


this morning she finally called,
its a wired switch.

i can't live with a person like that.

this is yet another wound in my IT knowledge, and a stab in the back to common sense....

So you're going to dump her cuz she's not as tech savy as you are? I'm sure you would be just as lost at some of her 'pointless' interests. It's all a matter of care. If she doesn't care about wtf an ip address is, then she'll ask every time. Chances are she probably couldn't point out the router from the modem, let alone know the differance. If computers (& their lingo) were as easy to the general public, as they are to most the people who get enjoyment out of knowing them, then the jobs wouldn't pay so much. Sort of like the machanic. Sure, I COULD fix the car myself, but that's why I'm paying him, so I don't get my shirt dirty & break 3 other things along the process.

Besides, when you finally do find the tech-savy girl, it's been my experience that you're friends will dig her too. & that makes for a VERY uncomfortable situation.
