XMPP server (openfire) Chat application

Hello ,
I am developing social networking web application using java programming . I need to develop chat application for my web site users like facebook . I have planed to use XMPP server to provide Instant messaging features , roster management and etc. I have chosen OPENFIRE XMPP server . How can i implement XMPP server for my own application and Where to start..?

If you've decided on XMPP and want to write a client, you should start at the XMPP Specifications. The link is to the "Basic Instant Messaging" extension to XMPP, you should also probably read about XMPP CORE too.
