I didn't call anyone sad or pathetic (did I?). I said I feel sorry for them... because I can't imagine - nor do I WANT to imagine - living my life that way.
That seems a bit pedantic. Does one typically feel sorry for people who are happy and in enviable health?

Thank you depricated, my point exactly.
Why are you calling thme idiots, feel sorry for, or think they're sad. It's none of yo' business.
As for the ones that were pointed out as thinking everyone should be like them and code 24 hours... well they're committing the same crime. It's none of their business if we don't do it either.

They don't need or want your pity. I think of myself as someone who's lifes work and joy is creation - coding being a huge part of that. I don't want your pity.
Talk to us like human beings, rather than constantly measuring yourself against others. I don't pity you for measuring yourself against others when they tell you how they live, because I don't assume you do it in an unhealthy way. Rather, I assume you're applying perpsective.
Default to the positive and not the negative, and people become much easier to deal with.
(note this doesn't apply in IT: always assume the user is a lying, scheming, lazy dirtbag)

I pretty solid in being grouped with sloth on this one.
No one asked if you wanted me to feel sorry for you. Doesn't change the fact that I do.
Controversial opinion is controversial.

Controversial opinion is controversial.

let's also clear up in this thread that
- we only referred to people who personally describe themselves in these workaholics terms
- that nobody assumed this status for either LoD or dep
- that LoD then came and described himself this way
- that dep keeps describing himself this way while immediately going out of his way to explain the things that don't make him this way.

You described an abstract construct
The abstract construct semantically described dep and I
We said you're wrong to accuse those abstract constructs, of which we consider ourselves a member, as less than nominal.
You say you're not referring to us.
We say, then what about the others who also fall into that abstract construct?

See, the thing is, I don't see a difference between myself and those people. Because I think they're a charicature based on me, based on duct. I suspect duct's characterization of his life leaves out some things. I'm sure he has friends he hangs out with and shit he does on the side. It's hard to randomly get your fuck on when you're a fat lazy shut-in (the only possibility for the charicature).
I think you had a good point earlier - I don't proselytize it as the only way to be a programmer. I can agree fully that those people are douchenozzles. But they're doing the same thing.[edit: that you're doing, and vice versa - which means you're being a douchenozzle too.]
In other words: John Galt doesn't exist, but I'm pretty happy to be Eddie Willers.

I think you're stupid for claiming to be a cheeseburger when clearly you have no cheese on you.
