Looking for step by step simple java game.

Posted 08 September 2013 - 09:37 AM

Hi all, I am trying to find a How To or walkthrough of how to design a simple game in java, I need to do this literally overnight and the game needs a GUI and to look good, but the most important part is for it to be easy to program (I am very new to programming) I use Java Netbeans IDE and would like to create the program in here. I really would appreciate any feedback or help ASAP as I need to do this for a school task due tomorrow.

A simple Youtube search could help: Java 2D game tutorials

Also if you are new to programming making a game overnight is a near impossible goal. You should have started your assignment earlier and perhaps read your course materials.

I understand that it will be very very difficult but I really need something very simple, even a simple tennis or snake type game will be good enough. I got my assignment two days ago and attempted to do it without help but to no avail and so I am now desperate.

This guy on youtube has a Pong tutorial which will probably suffice Pong tutorial

Though I would of thought someone with 3 year programming experience would be able to search youtube or google.

Of course it does. If you have left this completely to the last minute then you will learn your lesson for next time. Developing games and good looking GUI's takes time and effort. You aren't going to be able to make something in a couple hours and expect it to be good. It won't be. You need to re-evaluate your work ethic.

If you had problems doing it thats fine. Thats completely normal especially for games and GUI's. But don't suffer silently until the last minute. Ask your professor for help. Thats what they are there for.

It sounds like you are now looking for a copy/paste job which may get you some marks but you won't learn anything from in so you are wasting your time. You aren't going to magically gain knowledge when it comes to next time.

</rant>

But anyways back on topic doesn't your textbook have some examples you can use? Surely you have had some support with this? You haven't been just left with an assignment to make a game.

You honestly think it's possible to create a game overnight? As Ryano121 mentioned, it really sounds like you want the source code to a simple game written in Java? Cheating will get you no where my friend, and your professor will most certainly know that it is not your code.

We would all recommend to you, not to leave you assignments until they are due.

That's the thing about these coders that ask for 'simple' examples. They don't want any static about how much work it's going to be, just give them something that they can copy, compile, & they'll be making an MMORPG by dinner.

I made a simple Pong game, it isn't perfect, but I did what I could with my time, there are one or two problems I haven't solved, for example the game will just keep playing until the window is closed, to remedy this I'm going to build a method which, when a certain score is reached by either the player or computer opponent, will reset the game.
I'm going to post all of the code in another thread which I'll link here when I post it.
