1600 a month is still insane, no matter if its deductible. Most people I know don't even make that much money in a month to live on (of course they'd have their insurance subsidized)... but no matter who you are, 1600 a month is INSANE (for a single individual that is... I'm assuming this was an individual plan). Especially considering that it doesn't include his condition, as was clarified. And if what his broker does turn out true... I don't want to know what then.

Agreed, that's why I was shooting for clarity on where he was getting those numbers. The broker, or healthcare.gov.

It would be the first time in the three years I've done business with her. I go to her because she tells me straight, and she gets the best deals because she can go search for every deduction and what not.

The other thing is she gets paid the same amount from me every month no matter what happens. She is like a personal assistant for insurance. I pay her a set amount and she finds me insurance deals and manages my claims. There would be no reason for her to lie to me at all, in fact, it is the exact opposite. Them more policies I book through her the more she gets paid, so it is in her best interest to find me the best possible deal, not screw me over.

If you're so sure she is the one somehow making things expensive, then tell me how? Remember, she doesn't set the price, negotiate the price, or in any way have any say in the price at.

By the same token, shop around with another agent or broker. See what rates they give you.

Already have. Called two other brokers and they told me the exact same thing.

Brokers don't actually do any price adjusting. The only thing they do is manage your policies, talk to the insurance when you file a claim, and if necessary go to court for you. They make money and gain clients through the fee they charge for their service and the quality of service. Not every broker has the same connections, for instance, my broker does Auto through Citizens, Geiko, and State Farm, but not through AAA. In the healthcare market however, every broker must be certified on the exchange as of October 1st. They all get the same options.

Your car was never destroyed by a tornado was it? She went to bat for me when the insurance company decided that they only owned me $2000 on a car that cost $25k (said tornado where not covered under "not at fault damage"). She went to court and won me all $25k of my car. That's why you get a broker. The insurance companies don't want to pay you, and a broker fights them on your behalf.

let me clear this up for you, in bullet points, since maybe that will help you.
  • you are getting FUCKED
  • you have a broker
  • you claim your broker has no control over price
  • if your broker does not have control over price, you will continue getting fucked
  • GO DEAL WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE CONTROL OVER PRICE
  • if you do not go deal with people who have control over price, you will continue getting fucked
  • if you do not take this on yourself, and continue with the status quo, you will continue getting fucked
  • YOU will be responsible for this

And who might that be oh wise one. The insurance companies that set the prices in the first place? The government that is 17 trillion in debt and wants to nickle and dime me?

Again, tell me who to talk to about prices. I will go have a big long heart to heart with them just for you :)

Well, in a way, it is my fault. I didn't do enough to prevent this act from being passed. Should have run for congress in 2010 shouldn't I have......

Let's see if you can come up with an answer to "how am I being fucked".

Well, unfortunately, I called them already. They very politely told me they don't negotiate prices.

You really have never bought insurance have you?

Still no response to how I'm getting fucked...... I'm beginning to think you know that I'm not, you just can't admit it.
