Ted Cruz is volunteering to give up his salary as a US Senator until this impass is resolved. I wonder if Harry Reid will volunteer do the same.

There are quite a few giving up their pay, or donating it to charity. Sharrod Brown is, and there was a chick.

Can anybody verify what the tally is on which party has the most members taking a hit on pay? I have an idea, but want verification so I don't have to resort to citing opinion columns or biased assumptions.

As of noon Wednesday, at least 66 lawmakers — 32 Republicans and 34 Democrats according to one of the links Modi supplied.
7 ® and 5 (D) refusing their pay completely.

Meaning of all the members of congress only 66 so far deserve consideration for re-election is how it matches my idea.

Personally I would prefer them all to go away but we know that won't happen.

Thanks for not citing an opinion column

I love the token "I'm giving up my pay until this is settled" move - as if that makes any difference to them or to anything.

Does anyone really suspect that Ted Cruz is counting on that paycheck to make rent next month? Or that he'd even notice if he weren't paid at all?

Anyone who takes this as anything other than meaningless posturing is a fool. (and before you ask, yes it's meaningless posturing for any millionaire to give up their salary for a few weeks, doesn't matter who the millionaire is)

It's bullshit is what it is. He's never going to notice the difference, the treasury will never notice the difference, and you the taxpayer will never notice the difference.
It's just a rich fucker waving his wads of cash in your face - "here, look, I'm so rich I don't even need to cash my paychecks, dig me".

Um, what?

Was that a response to something, or just firing off randomly for no reason?

A quote from someone in one of those articles:

Quote

Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.): He said Tuesday on Facebook that "Those who make the laws should have to live by those laws.

Right, by not shutting down the "gubment" because you, the minority, don't agree with a law that was determined to be constitutionally legal, and passed in the proper constitutionally legal manner...

No, it is literally nothing to them, which is why they're giving it up, temporarily. Two terms in congress and they get that pay for lifetime anyway.

Well then maybe that is the problem, those rich little democrats shouldn't get paid for the rest of their miserable little lives should they? Or let me guess it is okay they get paid, just not the republican ones. It seems your logic states that the donkey party can do no wrong.

For the record, you wont offend me with the republicans, they are worthless c&^**^ckers in my book too, I don't discriminate

Edit: Maybe the real issue here is ALL these elected officials get paid more than corporate CEO's

lol,no. Both you and Mac assume that I am gung-ho Democrat, and while in this instance I am firmly on their side, the majority, as our government works by majority rule. I am quite far from believing that Democrats can do no wrong. On one hand, a Democrat ended Glass-Stegal and signed NAFTA, but on the other hand a Democrats was only one in the past 50 years to give what Republicans claim to have wanted to long, a balanced budget. A Democrats also presided over the largest economic expansion in U.S. history since WWII. To paint them as the bad party is completely dumb.

Members of congress should be paid for their work, and that's it. No lifetime pensions and health care.
