Exactly what I was thinking.

"Lets quick scope with this 15KG rather long rifle!"

Steam had 75% off Torchlight 2 over the weekend. Think like Diablo 2, you run around and kill things. Simple, yet great fun, and strangely addictive. I bought it saturday, was out most of sunday, yet I still already have something like 10 hours played.

I was invited into a stress test for Elder Scrolls Online over the weekend too. It's rather fun, and is built on a skill point system, as opposed to 'you level, go visit your trainer' like most MMOs out there. Very pretty too, but I expected that after playing Skyrim. The main place where the game is lacking is in your interactions with NPCs, and it brings me back to my wish to see Bioware and Bethesda team up for an MMO. ESO's world and game system is so much better than TOR's, yet TOR has the better dialogue and conversation systems. Putting them together would produce a massive MMO (I expect at least a 50GB install), but with Bethesda doing the world, and Bioware doing the dialogues, it would be brilliant.

This would indeed be awesome but I can't see it ever happening. I expect they they would rather improve their weaknesses to their opposites level rather then co-operate. Failing that, just buying the other company out if they had a string of bad luck/releases.

(Gah, anyone else just randomly miss out words from their sentences? Drives me crazy)

It happens to me from time to time.

And I don't see it happening either, which is a shame because I think such a game would set the bar for new MMO heights.

It's the same for me with Creative Assembly, Paradox Interactive, and Firaxis Games.

I would love a game with the battles and army management of Total War, the strategic freedom and economy/diplomacy of Europa Universalis, and the customization and city placement of Civilization.

I once considered whether you could make a Civ mod where instead of the units just fighting as normal, you could launch a Total War battle with the equivalent units. Not sure if that's even feasible, but one can dream...

What's your preferred battle type? Arcade, Realistic, or Simulator?

I enjoy the Arcade for sheer fun and the Realistic for increased challenged. I'm not a fan on the simulator though.

That would be an obscenely tedious and time-consuming game. lol - not bad, I mean like Dwarf Fortress levels of micromanagement though.

Thing is, Total War and Civilization are wonderful on their own and don't leave me wanting. I've never played a Bethesda game I enjoyed, and Bioware has always left me kind meh, waiting for more.

Torchlight => Where Diablo meets Fate. Really fun game to play.

I still got my copy, and install it periodically to play it. I wish they would reboot it or expanded it.

Went to play Fallout : New vegas for PS3 last night and found my copy of the game (after realling long install) only goes to a black screen and then nothing. I will have to contact my bro and see if I have to exchange it at his Game Stop or if any will do. (it was christmas gift).

EA published the game and currently hold the rights, as far as I know. Firaxis, the game's developers, were later purchased by Take-Two. EA could sell the licence to Take-Two so Firaxis could make a sequel, but may not be open to selling it to a rival publisher.

There's the Planetfall mod which uses the Civilization IV engine to remake Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri though, if you wanted to take a look at that.

Agreed. Torchlight 2 is proving to be a very fun little game :)

As for Fallout: New Vegas, I recommend swapping it for a PC version. Fallout, Skyrim, and some other Bethesda games are a bit screwy when it comes to playing them on consoles. It has something to do with the savegames. As the game progresses, the savegame files get larger, and eventually, they get too big, and the PS3 has trouble with them.

In a F:NV game on the PS3, I had less than 20 hours clocked in, but the game was getting so laggy, I had to stop and reboot the console every 10-20 minutes (maybe less time if there was a lot of combat). On the other hand, I traded that copy in and bought it for the PC. Brilliant game, and not a single problem involving the savegame. (There was one problem, resulting from use of Quick Travel in the Big Empty, but that was easy enough to solve).

And of course the other major advantage of having a PC version of the various Bethesda games is the massive amount of mods that are available.

Ever wanted to fight a giant MLP in skyrim? There's a mod for that.

Want to beat Molerats with a lightsaber? There's a mod for that.

Want to have a visit a brothel with realistically rendered models and movement? Yeah, there's a mod for that...

Are we back to not commenting on other people's fetishes? ;)

I've not played much with mods in Skyrim or F:NV. Any recommendations?
