I've recently started in on Farcry which seems to be very similar to Dead Island. It seems to have less bugs in it so far but time will tell. I've also been kicking around Tropicio 4. I played the first version of that game a lot and was really surprised with the changes. Then you know there is the old standby Elder Scrolls V.

Farcry has fewer zombies. Dead Island has less heavy artillery, and only one boat. Zombies ate the others, you see.

Far Cry 2 is one of the best games ever made imo. An excellent and believable story which features real, tangible consequences for your actions. The AI is pretty good, I can't count the number of times I've been jumped by a group that decided to stalk me after I zipped past them. You can watch the mobs help eachother to safety, heal eachother, and coordinate to hunt you. You can hear as you trick them into thinking you're more than one person, or as they call out to eachother that they've spotted you or can't find you. All this combined with the physics engine that allows you to set a field on fire and let the wind carry it to an enemy outpost (or back in your face if you're dumb), and the placement of most UI objects as elements within the game (want to check your map? You actually pull out a map and can still look over it), makes it incredible.

Been time travelling Alapee? G&K came out for Civ a year and a half ago, or something like that. We're onto Brave New World now.

For Farcry, might I recommend a silenced weapon, and crouching in the undergrowth. If you are clever/sneaky you can pick off groups of bad guys one by one while they search the jungle for you, but never find you.
@Alapee, that makes sense. If you fancy killing a weekend, add me on Steam, and we'll get some multiplayer Civ matches going

I lost a weekend to it. Apart from food and sleep, that was pretty much my entire weekend up until last night.
The main game itself is pretty short. I finished that inside a day. Fun though, and if you are the reading type, there are options to get some insights into the Shadowrun world. Saturday morning I picked up the expansion. £11.99 on Steam, so more expensive than the original game, but it is much, much longer, and feels more immersive.
The Dead Man's Switch campaign in the original game, you get access to a semi-private safehouse which is a single room containing all your vendors, etc. In Dragonfall (the expansion campaign), you have a safehouse, but it is for your group alone, and all support services are available in the local plaza, or city block.
Out of the classes, I've got three going at present. Dead Man's Switch I completed using a mage. Some of the UGC for Shadowrun Returns I've been looking at with a new character, decker/rigger mostly to see how well the two classes work together. Note, they don't. There is no-one to control your drones once you are jacked into a computer system. So, for Dragonfall, I've been playing a straight up decker instead of a decker/rigger. Took some rifle skills on the side, just so I can keep up in combat with the rest of my team.
One thing that is sorely lacking though is multiplayer support. It is the type of game that would be great fun blasting through with friends, but it is single player only.

I am taking a week off from computer games. And I mean it this time.

After a two week bender I burned through all of Saints Row The Third, the three DLCs, and ended with 83% of the game completed. Freaking awesome. One of the more funny games I have played in a long time, and I was never a fan of 'mayhem games'. On the plus side it did motivate me to get a 360 controller for Steam.. so that's a plus.

I'm beating my head on the wall over controllers. I just bought a new wireless controller so I could play some Mega Man 3 and Super Metroid. Forgot to get batteries. Yesterday I swing by my mom's house and bum some AA batteries off my little brother. Turns out it needs AAA batteries. Who the hell uses AAA batteries?!
Maaaaan, I'm so bitter...

Small victories...no other half to bitch about anything.
Small defeats...no TV from which to steal batteries. My monitors are my TVs.
