I just found Advanced Options. It's Initializing the System Restore right now. Contacted Microsoft and since I'm still under warranty, they're sending me a recovery disk as well.. thank god!

I didn't want to mention this until the problem was resolved but 8.1 is (around) a 4GB download and, as far as I can tell, only offers a number of cosmetic changes. Customizing the Start Screen and Tiles, and its wallpaper, are not important to me. I think I'll leave it.. ;)

Yeah, I've heard that they un-did a lot of the cluster-fuckery that makes everyone hate using it on a non-tablet device.

Overall, glad to see you got it fixed! (for free!)

NOTE: THERE IS A WAY TO RESET YOUR HP WITHOUT A DISK -- IT IS BUILD INTO THE HDD. SO IF U HAD NOT
MESSED WITH THE HDD, THERE IS STILL HOPE.
Every computer that comes without a disk have recovery managers built in. Usually pressing a specific key on the keyboard as soon as the computer starts up can load the recovery manager. It is hidden in a hidden partition on your HDD. But if you did something look formatted the entire HDD or added or removed or resized partition the recovery partition is doomed and I suggest you go and get a disk from Microsoft ( if you purchase windows 8 they can mail you a DVD for free ).
On HP the recovery key is usually F11, but I don't know your PC model so you better search online. Boot up the computer and press the recovery key repeatedly will load the recovery manager, giving you the option to do a factory reset. It is recommended that you get a SATA to USB cable and backup everything before you proceed.
you know what is the easiest way? Get a Mac. They can run windows and is x can be used as a backup os, not to mention that OS X have recovery
Partition built in. If you have OS X, press option when you boot up and you can see the recovery partition.

You dug up a post from last year to re-post the solution that was already verified to work?
