Happy Miscellaneous War-Related Holiday

Posted 11 November 2013 - 06:26 AM

I know this is only a US holiday (Armistice Day and Remembrance Day )but I would like to thank all the military vets in the world living and dead who fought for their respective country. They give there all for their country and it should be respected.

So thank you Vets and current military personnel.

Thanks to my nephew, father n law, grandfather, and my three uncles.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

My cousins, uncle, great uncles, my friends who made it through a few tours in the mid east, their families, and pretty much anyone who was substantially more fit and motivated than I to put on a uniform.

My grandfathers, my brother, my nephew, my cousin, GunnerInc, and a very good friend offline... they all gave their time, their energy, and were willing to give their lives.

Thank you.

Just so you know it is also Remembrance Day here in Canada. I know the US likes to think they have the scoop on all holidays as being unique but they are not. I use to think that (being that I am American) but I quickly realized that it wasn't true once I moved out of the American bubble.

And we Europeans also have Armistice Day (Remembrance day) today.
It's to remember the day of the end of WW1, the day that the allied forces and Germany signed an armistice

My grandfather (fathers side - pictured below) dropped out of Georgia Tech to fight in WWII (but he later finished). These pictures are ones of him in the Army Air Corp. My step grandfather Colonel Elliott (also on my dad's side) fought in WWII and Nam but passed away May 2012. He influenced my brother heavily, and my brother now wears the uniform as well. My uncle also served as a pilot in the Air Force. My dad is the first in our line to not be in military, and unfortunately, I do not qualify (my ankles and back problems).

Anyway, my family is full of veterans, and today is a big day for us.

Cool WWII pics:

But it's not miscellaneous war. The war all 3 holidays exist to honor is WWI, not any miscellaneous war. It's only the countries preferred name for the day that varies.

So maybe.
Happy remembering WWI by miscellaneous title day.

I've never known what we're supposed to say back to the thank you thing. "You're welcome" is ridiculous, "No problem" is highly inaccurate, and my normal smile and awkward nod is, well, awkward. Maybe I'll just start going with "You're welcome... hope you're enjoying that blanket of freedom you sleep under." If I'm gonna be a douche, I might as well do it right...

I would figure "thank you for your support!" would be okay.. then yell "cowabunga!" as you jump onto your skateboard, bump into a pizza delivery guy, snag the 'zza with your nunchucks, and disappear around the corner.
