python script that talks to router help

Posted 11 December 2013 - 09:46 PM

Hello all, im fairly new to python. I would simply like to get pointed in the right direction and/or understand if this is feasible.

Is it possible to create a python script that pulls data from the router you are connected to? For example, say I wanted to pull a MAC address from the router (and have it time stamped)? Or say I wanted to pull data from something my router is connected to..like say an Iphone/android mobile device

Am I barking up the wrong tree? What would you recommend doing if you wanted to pull data from a router?

Thanks in advance from a noob!

I think im too much of a beginner to really understand what is going on in any of those links. Perhaps I need to learn a bit more beforehand. Thanks for the links -- any beginner friendly advice to start would be appreciated

Is this a consumer-grade router? If so, then it usually has a web interface and you can use something like scrapy to login to the interface and extract the data you want.

Thank you JackOfAllTrades, I will check it out. I was looking for more of an introduction to learning how to do it through python. If there are any books/web sources that I can look at in order to get a grasp of the concepts and the procedure itself.
