what is the default Server?

Assuming you didn't jack with any of the settings it should be your local machine's name.

How to Connect it?

Type in your machine's name and, again assuming you didn't deviate from the wizard, use windows authentication.

What?

The server name is the computer name. You can probably just use "localhost", or you can also use whatever name the server actually has. It is the name to identify that computer on the network. Whenever you install Windows you give the computer a name, that's the name it is asking you for. The reason it doesn't always connect to the server it's running on is because you can use the management studio to connect to multiple servers.

I am using SQL Server Express, but the same principles will hold for another version:

Start the Configuration Manager and it lists available servers, from the SQL Server Services in the panel on the left. For Express it is listed as:

SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)

I start this service, then open the Management Studio.

In the Connect to Server dialog, the server may already be listed, otherwise enter:

your-pcname\SQLEXPRESS

and, for Express, I use Windows Authentication.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Of course you can look up 'step by step install mssql' and find great options for how to do the install properly.
