Well there's this topic:

It depends on what you want to do. Is this for personal study or a class?

I'm a senior in high school and i am planning in majoring in computer science the junior college i am goign to attend for 2 years says for the program i have to take either C, C++, or Java i'm unsure of which i should choose. I want to be able to develop software in general but i also want the chance to work for companies or gaming companies. ( or is specialization a better thing)

C++ or Java - flip a coin. You'll probably end up learning both.

Yes, assuming you're not teaching yourself bad habits. Most likely you'll need at least a Bachelors degree to get in to software development. Usually you need at least that to get past HR.

I'm doing the free edX class Introduction to Computer Science CS50 by Harvard, and the first 6 weeks of it is all learning C. If you decide on learning C, I highly recommend this free class because it has all the lecture videos as well as walkthrough videos on how to use functions, libraries, etc, as well as making sure you're learning how to style and debug.

The book I'm reading through right now is Absolute Beginner's Guide to C by Perry. It's like a $40 book I think but I got it on Half.com for $8.50 shipped, cheapest I could find.
