How to secure your hard drive?

Posted 01 March 2014 - 10:02 AM

Is there a way to encrypt your hard drive so that if someone steals your laptop they're going to have some major issues getting any actual data off of it? My laptop runs Ubuntu and it has a password and stuff but I want to actually encrypt the data on it to the point where it's extremely secure and the only real way to break into it is if NSA had hold of it.

What programs / methods can one use to acheive this?
