Basic questions

Posted 03 March 2014 - 01:57 AM

Hello

What are the topics that you would include under 'Basic questions in Mathematics and Computers'.

Context:- Included in exam syllabus

P.S.:
1) There are no previous year papers that I can refer to(because the institute that conducts the exam does not allow that). Also, I don't know anyone who has taken the exam before.
2) It is an entrance exam for Masters in CS

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Are you trying to prepare for this entrance exam? I suppose you could search other institutions to see if they make their versions, or samples of them, publicly available.

But if it is for a Masters, and asking "basic questions", do you really need to prepare? (I'd guess that they don't issue previous versions because they don't want anyone to prepare ;))

I don't quite know what they would want, but at a guess, a few topics that you might want to be familiar with:

the binary number system. what is a binary number, and how do you perform arithmetic operations on it.
boolean logic. true. false. and. or. xor. not.
algebra, geometry, functions, matrices, basic calculus?
basic programming constructs.
computer organisation. how does the cpu talk to the memory, etc.
operating systems?
databases?

Beyond that I've got no idea without more information from you. But all of that stuff is undergrad CS.
