Advice on new design.

Posted 27 September 2007 - 02:50 PM

Ok so I finally just decided to go with simple on the design of my site. I actually kind of like this one, or at least what I think it can be. I just wanna know what you guys think about the design and any tips. I know the header is pretty simple, but I am really bad at photoshop type stuff, so thats why.

and the home, electric, and acoustic pages are the only ones that are updated.

Thanks guys.

Well I have not actually made the pages with the real content on them yet. The How it's made, Styles, and Brands headers are all going to be links to different pages with the actual facts.

And are the menu colors TOO loud? I liked them :( I guess it's more about the user and not me.

it's getting there...

i think the colors are too "loud" also... meaning, a little too much contrast. may want to tone it down a bit maybe.

and with whatever colors you DO choose if you decide to change it... try making the menu rollovers glow, light up, dim, or just alter the shade by about 20 values (up or down) instead of inverting it. it's less distracting, yet effective.

the layout is not centered to me (ff2) and the background is really bland... you can change that by either, making a white background, or black/dark background, or some background image maybe. something subtle.

well, hth. keep at it :)

I agree. They are a little too contrasting. If you're going with that color scheme, maybe try a orange to light orange fade that turns to yellow/light yellow fade on rollover. Also, Try black text, the white doesn't stand out much from the button. The way it s now, your eye is drawn to the button background, instead of the text. The page header is also too huge in my opinion.

Your coming along though, you've progresses a ton sicne you've started working on this site.

BTW, fretboard facts is a more clever name than the prior guitar facts. :^:

Thanks again.

Ok so I just added a background, but it makes the site look WAY too busy in my opinion. Anyone have tips on what kind of background to put?

The background does take away the focus from the tiny bid of content you do have, indeed, maybe fade the circles a bit?

You can also make the body of the site much wider (I assume there will be more content and graphics in there)

I didn't realize that those big fat fonts on the homepage were links... since there is almost no content, you would be better off putting that content on the homepage.

Lastly, use something to distinguish links from the rest of the content. I had no clue until just before I was going to close the browser that your links were actually links...

yeah, the text needs work.

those links are massive,
more margins on the pages,
the font is real blocky at that size.

ohhh I like it but of course I have my 2 cents...

I actually like the header but streach the satiny looking thing a little futher right and give it and inner glow w/ a normal black color and an outer glow, with the opacity brought down color grey, normal, the edges are to hard right now. Just play with both of those things until the edges look better...just in case you don't know how, right click the layer>blending options :)

I am in IE6, I know you guys must be thinking I use it alot...i have to for school...anyway I am in IE6 and your menu is hanging down about three or four pixels from the menu bar.

Agreed on the loud color, if you want the yellowish orangy color then put that color border around it when hovering 1px

The body bg pattern is nice, I like it, but a little girly for a guitar website and it's not lining up right, or repeating right as far as being a pattern goes

Unbold your text and your headlines are way too big

I really like the new look though..very nice :)
