If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs.
32-bit and 64-bit Windows: FAQ
Alternatively, perhaps you can upgrade to Vista 64 first? And then to W7-64 bit.
It might be worth running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, although I don't have a link.
Thanks. I also thought of that too, but sadly I did not have the 64 bit for vista or xp. In in the end, I had no choice but to re-install Vista :'(

Now I am curious - are these legit copies of said install discs?
lol yes. But I did try installing a 32 bit version of 7 Ultimate from the web, but the site pretty much tried hijacking my computer.
