my lappy is old and i want to see it in all its glory.

i've got it set to super effects with no problems so far on the lappy
everything i needed to customize on feisty to get it up and running was fixed by default in the install on gibbon. other than that, still digging around in it.

Well, honestly, I like a few things about Ubuntu better than Fedora. Package management is so much better and faster, even if you install synaptic under fedora, which I did. I also like that distro upgrades can be done through apt, as opposed to downloading several gigabytes worth of stuff, most of which I probably won't need. Fedora also realeases about 300 updates within a week of releasing a new version. Ubuntu also has better desktop sharing. As in it actually works without completely killing the firewall. I'm not just talking about a normal X11 vncserver. I want to be able to work on the desktop that shows on my monitor. I couldn't get desktop sharing to work properly with Fedora unless I just turned off the firewall. Turning off the firewall is completely unacceptable.
Why I am using Fedora right now:
It's set up to autoconfigure X for screens so that you don't have to edit xorg.conf to get the best resolution. I use a 16x10 ratio monitor, and ubuntu only supported the 4x3. Not a big deal, but I am looking to avoid unnecessary tweaking. I also run a print server for a USB printer and the drivers for the printer are available as rpm ONLY from Canon, and alien didn't get the print drivers working for me. I just realized that I could copy the ppd file and see if that works, so I might try that. I also run a samba server, for no real reason, and I couldn't get it to work on any of the other distros I tried (mandrake, suse, and ubuntu.)
I might try it. I really don't like the slow as balls package management fedora offers. Synaptic on Ubuntu is much faster than on fedora. Everything else I can get around easily enough. I don't store anything for school on my desktop. All of that I have on a thumb drive so I won't lose anything if either of my Macbook or desktop go bad.
I guess the short answer to your question is : I'll most likely try it out.
Although, I have always come back to Fedora.

gibbon is expected to not be as stable as hoary.
since its not a LTS release,
alot of people feel they throw in a bunch of stuff that might normally not be fully ready, so that it can get completely tested out before its released on an LTS release.
nonetheless, i have not had any stability issues with it on the lappy so far, and those were the betas.
