Adding a .dll to the production server

Posted 22 July 2014 - 12:37 PM

Previously, I used Visual Studio's Copy Web Site feature to move my site onto the production server, where it automatically inserted an entry in the web.config.

I have clicked on Add Reference to add the .dll's and on the development, it imports to the Bin folder and it works. I've copied the Bin folder, but the production server still shows that I'm missing an assembly reference.

I looked to input the entry in the web.config manually, but I can't get the PublicKeyToken. I supposedly need to strongly sign it, but I don't have a Visual Studio Command Prompt.

Anyone know what I should do? I'm also trying to implement Elmah this way, but I've not seen signs of it working at all.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I publish it to a local folder.. then copy all the ASPX files and entire bin folder to the production server.

Okay.....

Apparently, I needed to copy it to the root directory. I've been keeping my aspx files separate from the rest of the files so I don't mess up anything. I've been copying it to the wrong folder.

Is there a way I can change the path to the Bin folder?

At the moment, the Bin folder is in the root directory and only works there. I'd like to keep the Bin folder in my directory and keep the previous developer's work as separate as I can if I can help it.

So whatever is looking for the Bin folder, presumably IIS, I'd like for it to look for the Bin folder specifically in my directory.

But if that's too much work or can't be helped, I'll just roll with it.

I had never had a need to do that, but you can check around in the project's settings/properties to see if it will let you modify the bin's location.
