Connecting to Remote Database with Visual Studio

Hey So when I go to Data source and try and add the connection to my Mysql database in visual studio.. It keeps telling me server not found.


I have navicat downloaded and it connects to my db just fine.

I use hostgator and I have also already forwarded myip under remote connection as well.

I am using Microsoft SQL server as my connection when I click New Connection

lol, Im a moron I downloaded the connector and got it working..

One mroe issue now though.
The connection works and it shows my database then when it asks what I want to import. I select the tables box.. then it just loads for like 3 minutes then says timeout has occurred everytime

Hello everyone,

I have a very weird request.

So Basically Im making a program that tracks inventory in Visual Studio 13.

I used the dataSource tool to connect to a database.


I have 1 column labeled parts

In there I have rows labeled

Part #, Description, Vendor and In stock amount

I connect to the database to retrieve and show that information in my program VIA this code

What I want to do.

I want to be able to make it where each time I say add 50 or 100 parts to a certain part number. It find that part number in the database and updates its In Stock Amount Accordingly.

Also, If I check out a part, I would like it to take a away 1 or how many ever I am using from the In Stock Amount in the database.



I am fluent to using PHP for connecting to a database being manually writing the code. The datasource tool has got me all confused and I do not know where to even start to pull information and create those formulas to determine the Amount in stock in C#.... The database name is Vehicles and the table name is parts

then you should stop using the datasource tool.

So I watched a tutorial on how to connect my C# to MYSQL and got it working. Problem is that I made a console application instead of a Windows Form

So basically. How do I make this into a Windows form instead of a console.

I made a winForm and put the same code in No errors happen but nothing shows up.

When Its just the console app then the total amount shows up just fine.

I made a winForm and put the same code in No errors happen but nothing shows up.

Winforms operate in an event driven nature. A form loading throws an event, the 'new' constructor does stuff, etc. If you do not have your code hooked into an event or in the constructor then, yes.. the code will not execute.

I have zero idea what event you want that code hooked up to so, no, I cannot help you there. As I said - the 'new' constructor would also work since that is always called when the form is started.

Perhaps go read up on them. ("msdn winforms events tutorial")

We can't teach you WinForm coding in a thread. And we're not going to tear apart your console code and do all your WinForms design for you.

Besides, why are you wanting to do 1990's WinForms? Are you targeting WindowsXP? Since it is all equally new to you I would suggest you use modern GUI techniques of WPF. It makes little sense to spend 10,000 hours on WinForms *THEN* another 5,000 hours bringing your skills up to current needs when you could just spend 10,000 hours on what employers are looking for in *this* decade.
