It looks like it has some pretty cool new features, but nothing earth shattering.

I dunno if I'll spring for the upgrade for the Mac Mini...

quick thing:

mac fans say wow. a release in 34 months for a new os, too bad it took vista 7 years.

vista changed things. leopard is an upgrade.

just had to get that out of my system. and i don't even use vista. i hate macfanboys.

its good to hear its already hacked. actually a day before release.

i hope someone i know wants to install it so i can play around with it on a pc. one time i regret the amd's.

Well MAC is practically good for Graphic Design this what it is used mostly for, I do not know a lot of people who use mac for things other than that, I Use a mac because its a requirement in my school if you're taking a Graphics Design class, but for me it doesn't differ from linux since they are both Linux based.

OSX is BSD based, not Linux.

From the Inquirer:

Quote

PUNTERS trying to install Apple's new Leopard operating system are experiencing crashes similar to Microsoft's Blue Screen of Death.

According to ComputerWorld, a significant number of Mac owners upgrading to Leopard reported the problem.

One of the busiest Leopard support forums reported how that installation appears stuck on a plain blue screen.

The problem happens after a successful Leopard install using the default " Upgrade" option and the required restart.

Some Mac users were so confused that they did as the operating system suggested and sat and waited. Some for up to six hours before they realised that it had crashed.

Others claimed that if they waited long enough the "blue screen of pause" would vanish eventually. Others claimed that this would only happen with the arrival of Godot and the Second Coming of Christ. µ

No Java 6 for Leopard?

Quote

IN A THREAD on Apple's discussion forum, software developers who use Macs are up in arms because Capuccinno Steve's flash new Leopard OS chokes on Sun's latest Java 1.6.

Apparently Apple's OS/X 10.5 ships without an updated Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that can handle Java 1.6. Reportedly Java 1.6 crashes with a segmentation fault while trying to load on Leopard. Apple hasn't commented officially but is said to be deleting forum complaints.

Some Mac based developers have been quick to blame Sun, but Sun's Java visionary James Gosling has disclaimed responsibility, saying that Apple develops its own JVM for OS/X "because Apple wanted to do it. "

Gosling wrote that Apple "wanted to do all sorts of customization and integration that only they could do -- because they own the OS." He also said that its lag on JDK support for Java 1.6 "keeps feeling like the big problem is that developers aren't the 'Target Demographic'."

Does this mean that ALL Java for Leopard is gone or just 1.6? I'm getting the impression that it's just 1.6. 1.5 and all previous versions should be fine.

Since Sun open sourced the JDK, can't you build it for Mac if you must have 1.6?
