I have to go finish an application for a duplex I applied to rent. They denied me initially, but after I challenged the report they denied me for, the company couldn't find a basis for the information, and removed it, and the rental company called me back so i can continue the application, so hopefully I can I get it.

They finally got me sorted last night. Now I have access to the virtual machines and network, sadly I am VPNing in to a remote site so I can remote desktop in to a separate site, so I can connect to my local site's machines. Needless to say; it is slow...

I finally got the Java Kafka client reading in the JSON logs! Now to clean up my code, parse the JSON, and then commit the metrics to datadog.

You know the issues you have been running into are all red flags. Taking them forever to get you setup is showing how slow they act and make decisions and the fact that they have you bouncing all over the place to connect locally is another flag that when they do make a decision they make crummy ones. Don't spend too much of your career working in such situations if you can help it.

Haha, yeah. And the sad part is that this is all new pain. It hasn't been around for the last 3 years until someone got a bug up their ass a few weeks ago and decided to force it on the entire company.

This is actually really good advice. An employer who respects you starts by giving you the tools you need to do the work, and clears away obstacles. If you're not getting that, it's hard to make up for it.
