Well I've officially been hired so can finally call myself a real web developer.
I was using Pluralsight's free 72 hour access to watch Backbone videos.

Congrats!
BUT,
There is nothing real about a web developer... Ask any of us!

Super wet and thick snow being laid down. Damn near christmas snow.. watch out everyone east as Linus comes a calling.
Threw another eight gigs of RAM in the box. It helps when you are running your VMs with more than 2gb of RAM.

just blew up my local database because whoever wrote the tool we're using to update it is a tool...so now I'm repairing that. No idea how long it's going to take me. Could be 15 minutes, could be all day depending on screwed up I am. I'm going nuclear though and just wiping it and restoring from backup, so shouldn't be too bad...

ybad, this would the time to explain the luxury of using a VM. Build it, test it, snapshot. Then if there are issues you roll it to the snapshot.

Yeah I wish I had the luxury of using a VM, but on top of not having the software for it here at work, they also don't hvae any OS iso's laying around, and don't want to spend extra money on new keys.

Super duper cold, snow, and wind means the schools are cancelled and I am working from home. I may venture out to scoop out my rig around noon. Work a plenty today.

At what point does your cost per hour of wasted days out-weight the cost of another license key?
Funny how that works out sometimes.

It's a brand new day and the sun is high, looks real nice out. No snow.

Keep track of the time it takes to do a reinstall. Pull up prices for a new key and the price of virtual machines. Give them a cost-benefit analysis and make your case.

My company's first "innovation challenge" (*hack-a-thon) is coming this week (Wednesday and Thursday) as a 48 hour time frame where participants aren't expected to work on their normal day jobs and are instead expected to focus solely (at least during working hours) on whatever project they have come up with.
Should be a fun time.
