Ok so the formatting has begun. 5% through. I did convince my network admin (my secondary boss) to allow me to set up a vm through virtual box. We have a windows 8.1 pro disk that I found in a drawer.

I literally just suggested a company hackathon...

A hackathon would be fun, but I'm the only developer here, and I would fail compared to the seasoned developer we are contacting to help with auto invoicing.

I have a feeling it is time to really start looking for a new place to put my keyboard. My boss, whom could be looking over my shoulder and still not know what I do, does not like me working from home because he can't prove that I am working... All because it took 6 hours to manually update a site from PHP 5.1 to current standard.
If I can get brushed up fast enough(~ 3-4 years since any REAL development in VB or C#), I am heading to the .NET side of things.

Our managers don't like us working from home because they like seeing us interacting and working side by side on stuff. And there's a fair bit of it - to the point that I prefer to be in the office so I can go to someone's desk if I have a question for them, or sit and show someone something without having to screen share and call.
But there isn't panic about us working from home, just a preference that we're in the office. There's not a stigma on it, we all do it with some regularity.
Besides, I need an excuse to leave the house, and get some exercise...and walking those stairs is pretty good for me.

My company doesn't like me working from home either, because they don't have a way of proving we are constantly working. .Net is fun though. MSDN has plenty of tutorials and video streams for it.

What is this documentation-laden MSDN you speak of?

I meant to put MVA not MSDN

I have a few contacts with various headhunters that I am starting to reach out to. If it comes down to jumping ship, I am not going to be out of work that long.
I like being in the office and talking to coworkers over what is going on and issues, but I take my daughter to and from school and have a nice work environment now. I think I will lose the flexibility most places.

I feel the same way, I haven't missed a deadline yet.
I have some headhunter contacts as well that I recently started talking to again. I was lied to about my job description when I was hired on here and left a very stable and flexible position for it, because I was very under paid. I could always go back to my previous job, but I wouldn't be able to afford my house at that point.

I was in the same boat yba. When I was hired at my previous company I was told that I was being brought on board to rebuild the team from the ground up. Come to find out one of the people in my interview, who they didn't introduce to me, was in fact the manager of that team, and I ended up being a report writer as well as working with their most difficult clients. We also were not allowed to work from home for any reason. It was the best thing for me to get out of there as now I have a job where my boss tells me like it is, and treats me like I'm an actual human being instead of a machine. I am now able to work from home or away from the office when ever I need to, and recently was able to take unreported, as in not submitted to payroll, time off for a doctors appointment. Just remember this, If they lied to you about one thing, they will lie to you about another.
Today I am packaging up ~10 items for review/deployment this week. This will be a big release as it means that a project that has been on the back burner for over 2 years will finally be nearing completion.

Starting the new job today. Doing it all remotely, since Linus has shut down our fair urban region.

Ok done with the formatting and reinstalling of windows. Now I just have to update the system, set up my network user, and then install virtual box, then install windows on it.
