Windows XP Bug

Posted 05 June 2002 - 04:36 PM

Once again windows returns to the ice age (get it).

Ever since I reinstalled XP (last month) I have been getting very random freezes. If music is playing it stops and the mouse will not movie, everything locks up and I have to go into reset mode and reboot. I will be re-installing in a few weeks anyway so If i can get this fixed I will be happy until then. Or else I'll reinstall sooner. If you have had any experiences with this let me know please.

Cheers Sam :)

this is totally a hardware/driver issue. if this were a true windows bug do you really think that M$ would sell more than... ummm... a million copies of XP before people caught on? they can't possibly take into account the billions of difering hardware configurations out there... much less couple that with billions more possible software combinations when they roll out a "stable" build of the OS. the first thing that pops out of my ass in a problem like this is IRQ conflict. mouse and sound card. but then again... when an OS crashes usually you lose everything anyway. the mouse not moving is just the most obvious indication of a lock. next would be bad/corrupt sound drivers. more than likely a reload of the OS would fix this... not beccause the OS is bad... but because the drivers will be reinstalled as well.

Oh I wasn't saying that it was a M$ problem. I figured that it was a driver issue, Although it is odd because I have done the exact same install 5 times and this is the first time this has happened. I was just wondering if anyone had these problems before and new of a quick fix or a temporary fix. :) Thanks for you input, I will most likely just reinstall again. :)

Yeah just finished my reinstall and uptime is at 16 minutes with no problems yet (knock on wood). But I still have to tweak everything to the way I want it, start by importing the SOFTWARE section from the old registry. I might install red hat on this system as doul boot, now just to find a system around here with an extra hard drive to spare.
