For those that didn't see it, Microsoft released an editor for Macintosh called "Visual Studio Code", along with a cross-platform version of the .NET framework referred to as ".NET core".

No installer. Just download the 62.5 zip file, uncompress and run it.
VS Code is in preview - so don't expect all the spit and polish of a finished IDE.
I've only ever toyed with Xcode on the mac so I'm no authority. But I can say "Don't expect the Windows Visual Studio experience on your mac." It feels like a fancy text editor more than an IDE. You open files, not entire solutions for example. And you don't have the full drag-drop-dock configurability we enjoy in the Windows VS environment.
User settings are not a dialog. You open the settings file and directly edit the json file.
