It's our RA Lead's 60th birthday today, and she always dresses fancy or like shes going to a nightclub (she looks 40 tops cuz she's Asian), so we all got all dressed up to the 9s to "dress like her". I look so good. They said that I was the most 180 in appearance. Normally I dress kinda scruffy, don't do my makeup, and toss my hair in a pony.

Drinking tea. Wondering why it's not coffee. Might have to do something about this.

Drinking some coffee, working on tearing apart a battery backup that has a completely stripped screw, and watching this documentary on YouTube: The Great Math Mystery Documentary. I was planning on recommending it to macosxnerd101, but I'm sure he's seen it haha. Makes me want to get back into math too, which I've been planning on doing. My biggest road block is figuring out where I left off years ago. My dad recommended Khan Academy to kind of figure out my level. Mac, you recommend any other quick ways to figure out where to start again?

Fighting with IT to get my old email address back now that I am once again an employee of my old company. It is amazing how "similar" account information for this other guys account is to mine... it all matches. Must be some strange error. It couldn't possibly be the same person.

Hating javascript. Well, more hating the libraries. To be fair, I'm hating the people who write the libraries. I mean really - if your one job is to come up with good names for things, how is it possible that you fuck it up so completely?

What, you mean using "$" as a global identifier isn't a good idea?

It's better than their first idea. They were originally going to use " ".

I remember the first time I saw jQuery code. I wondered what in the hell sorcery they had discovered in Javascript until I realized that "$" was a valid identifier, then I was just angry that they chose that for their global object. So of course the next several libraries that were released decided to use the same thing, because it's so much fun, until people figured out that maybe there was going to be a web page that had more than one library on it.

If you're not familiar with SCORM, that's another awesome example of people totally using their right mind and not being stupid at all. SCORM is a standard to allow online training courses to communicate with the hosting LMS platform through Javascript. So, up through SCORM 1.2 they require that the SCORM API is available in a global object called window.API. Because what the hell else could possibly use window.API as a name, right? When SCORM 2004 came out (naturally, the successor to SCORM 1.2) they removed the ambiguity and required that the API is called window.API_1484_11. Why 1484_11? Because F you, that's why. Why not SCORM_API? Because F you, that's why.

Someone found an innocuous validation error being thrown when using capital letters. Turns out it has nothing to do with it, it just drops an attribute that is checked.

So, writing the fecking GPIB implementation library bullsheet. Guys I'm building this fecking thing for decide the want specific methods for certain devices, fairly simple. Essentially just connivance routines for a bunch of commands that are always sent in the same sequence.
Yeah, no. Just no. The also want the app to determine the device without them having to tell it what it is and implement the correct class "on the fly" because they may even change devices mid-use.
Alright, it's not exactly simple anymore but I could do this in a week or two depending on how many devices. Not too terrible. So they set my deadline to two weeks, which ends today. Yesterday, they came to me and said that the want a program to create these classes in case they decide they want to create some for other specific devices, but they don't want to have to pay someone to write them if that situation comes up. They did not increase my deadline for this project...
So Now my primary thing is down, except it's not tested because somebody stole my Osciloscope that I was using, haven't started on the "write fecking classes by pressing shite little buttons or some shite because I don't want to pay some dude to make sure it works as intended" program...
AAAAAAAAAND to add to this my team of feral rats, for all the good they do me, have already started pestering me today and it's 5:53am. I can't get any coffee until 6:30am at the earliest because I forgot my coffee mug and the Cafe isn't open yet...

Running weekly backups, then on to an initial meeting for a new project.
On a lighter note(ish), a coworker just sent me a video on vaginal weight lifting... and now I'm a little afraid of my own body.
