I have some bad karma for something and I don't know what. Later that day somebody spray painted the side of my U-Haul truck and I didn't get the insurance.

Neo, the hoodrats needed something new to paint.

Monday morning and for the life of me, I cannot get into the developer mindset. I have been at work for almost 3 hours and am looking at an error message and cannot figure out why I am getting it. Grabbed another ticket to get my mind off of the previous, can't figure out where it gets handled.

Turns out the tire isn't lifetime warranty, it's 40,000 miles, which is way long gone. So I had borrowed money from grandma for a new tire but mom wont bring it up. She finally settled to pay for overnight shipping of said money. Ugh.

Today, I'm trying to figure out how to develop cross-platform mobile apps. I've never built ANY mobile app on ANY platform.

Hooray for learning new things!
Boo for learning new things on a deadline!

This should be interesting....

@b9 - Xamarin or Phonegap would be solid choices.. though you can buy time by spinning the committees off on having them debate color, style, layout, content, etc of the apps.

After dev work is doing the other half beings - getting them into their respective stores.

Oh, and fair warning.. those meetings by the "concerned parties" have a tendency to spin into unicorn territory. There are small niches in hell carved out for five part meetings debating just the damn name of an app.

Quote

Karen: I think Mobile FluffyBumVonDinkalator App would be wonderful for our app based on student scheduling!
Dev: I am not sure, Karen - isn't mobile and app redundant and the title seem a little long in its nonsense?
Trent: Now wait a minute, let's give Karen's idea a fair shake before we start getting judgmental.
Karen: Stop ruining my creativity! Fine - Mobile Internet Studentz! It needs three red lines with one of them blue.
Dev: Ah.. wait, what?!
Trent: Jolly good idea! Let's circle back next week and see what the company survey for names came back with. I heard this 'Turdsandwich' was gaining popular trending and we can put a pin in FluffyBum to see about a melding of synergy.
Dev: *head thunks off desk*

I've been fortunate thus far that this particular project has been a single contact set up. The web application is completed, functional, and approved. It's even pretty... all light blue and diamond-y. The mobile app isn't actually a requirement for the project... more of a "let me see if I can make this happen" kind of thing... an under-promise, over-deliver moment. He was only promised a web app... but I've been interested in mobile development for quite awhile and, being a small project, it seemed a good option for my first mobile app. If I can pull it off, it'll be the "over-deliver" part of the equation.

A critical part of project management - managing expectations - the Montgomery Scott way!

Geordi: Yeah, well, I told the Captain I’d have this analysis done in an hour.
Scotty: How long will it really take?
Geordi: An hour!
Scotty: Oh, you didn’t tell him how long it would *really* take, did ya?
Geordi: Well, of course I did.
Scotty: Oh, laddie. You’ve got a lot to learn if you want people to think of you as a miracle worker.

Corporate acquisitions are annoying. My old company is buying my new company. In theory they were going to raise our salaries according to what our level at the current company would be at the other company (maintaining levels); however, I know for a fact that their offers are low, at least for me...

That's easy. Next time you talk to the HR goon, call them a liar, flip the table, and walk out.

That'll show 'em.

Trying to figure out if it's possible to map individual files in a project to a different repository than all the other files that are in that project...
