need guidance for a desktop and client web using web api?

Posted 19 November 2015 - 08:26 AM

Before i start my question i want to tell you guys that i am asking it for my concept only if i get the answer that help me to persuade it then i will go for it.

Okay so i want to make a UMS (university management system) that will have a c# desktop application that will do all the admin stuff and a angularjs web app that will allow the student and teacher to do their stuff and also angularjs will show the website of the university too for the visitors to get the information and news related to that university.

and c# desktop application and angularjs will both use web api to talk to the db to perform tasks.

Now what find about the rest web api is that it send info in a xml or json file to client and that client then use that data to perform task, so it mean json file is not secured right, it just plain text in a formatted way but that is not my concern right now.
So what you guys think is this right way of doing it or not.

the other way was thinking is that use wordpress for university website coz wordpress is good cms system that will make it easy for me to allow the admin to edit uni website and update uni related news. and use angularjs for student and teacher so they can update their info and update attendance.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I am confused on the question.

Is that all possible? Yes, most certainly. Some sort of website and/or attendance tracking is a common homework assignment.

so it mean json file is not secured right

JSON is a data format. nothing more, nothing less. if you want nobody see the content of that data transfer, use an encrypted connection (SSL).

What question was not answered? It sounds like you're setting up a web service to handle data and then a couple applications that will use it. Yes, you can do that. The specific technologies aren't all that important, you can implement that with a variety of languages, frameworks, etc. I don't know if strict REST will be the right way to go here, because one thing you will need for the web service is authentication and authorization, and strict REST isn't all that well-suited for authenticated requests. You can still do it using the REST principles in a way that is technically no longer REST though, if you use cookies to track the login the same way any other website does.

you might look into HTTP Auth, for that matter.
