XAMPP not working

Posted 10 December 2015 - 08:18 AM

So, I updated my phpMyAdmin and then XAMPP and then phpMyAdmin again and now XAMPP isn't working.

When I try to start Apache it says this:
Error: Apache shutdown unexpectedly.
10:14:59 AM [Apache] This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
10:14:59 AM [Apache] improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.
10:14:59 AM [Apache] Press the Logs button to view error logs and check
10:14:59 AM [Apache] the Windows Event Viewer for more clues
10:14:59 AM [Apache] If you need more help, copy and post this
10:14:59 AM [Apache] entire log window on the forums

The error log doesn't have anything from today in it, though.

How can I fix this?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

What did you update?
How did you update?

Have you rolled back your updates?

I reinstalled XAMPP and phpMyAdmin.
It looks like I did version 5.5.3 for XAMPP and 4.5.2 for phpMyAdmin

I followed this: https://www.ostraini...ate-phpmyadmin/
And the chosen answer here: http://stackoverflow...mpp-for-windows

How do I do that?

Not at the moment, but yes.

I don't have skype using port 80 or 443 though

I would check Apache's error log then, & it should report why it's dying.

I find that difficult to believe. Either you are looking in a vhost log file & not apache's main log file, or do you possibly have multiple installations of apache?

When I open the XAMPP control panel and click on the Apache Logs , it has acces.log, error.log, and php_error_log

error.log only has this, all from the 8th:

Goto skype -> Tools -> Options -> advanced -> Connections. Then Un-check use port 80 anů.. Then close Skype and open again.

Just change the port on which XAMPP is serving Apache. In the XAMPP panel you can click 'Config' for Apache, and select httpd.conf (which will open it in the appropriate editor).

Choose Apache (httpd.conf)

you haven't customized your XAMPP that much, a search for 'Listen' should find this for you:

#Listen 0.0.0.0:80
#Listen [::]:80
Listen 80
Simply change that last line from Listen 80 to something like Listen 8080, or any other port you have available:

#Listen 0.0.0.0:80
#Listen [::]:80
Listen 8080
Click 'Start' for Apache and you should be good to go.

or use xamp on some other port. Thanks for the fix Precious, I didnt know that you could change it just from skype, I thought you had to assign a different port to your Apache.
