Hi, I'm Sophientis! :]

Posted 18 December 2015 - 09:23 AM

Hi, I'm Sophie, and I just joined. I enjoy coding, and joined to hopefully learn more and help people with what I know (Which isn't too much yet, but I'm getting there.) I know HTML and CSS relatively well, and am working on Java. I enjoy Chinese food, Dr.Pepper, Tea, browsing the web, and playing my favorite videogames (Skyrim, Undertale, LoL, Rift, etc). ^^

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Hello Sophie. Welcome.

Are you using an IDE? Which one? What are your long term goals for learning programming?

According to your profile you're 16 years old and have two years programing. About those two years, were they spent on HTML/CSS or Java? Are you beginning with Java?

I'm the only active user with the "Greeter" badge. I'm 51 years old, and I'm learning object oriented analysis/design/programming on my own. I'm using Modelio for my UML diagrams, CodeBlocks as my IDE, and C++ as my programming language. My studies have lacked structure since whatever picks my attention is what I study. I recently put together a quite big (for what it is anyway) practice project, and I'm trying to model it in UML. I'm very much attracted to VDM++, and I'm thinking hard on whether I should study VDM in parallel with UML.

That's a few things about me. You'll love this forums if you stick around.

IDE? I'm using CodeBlocks to learn Java. Currently Programming is just a hobby, but I hope to be either a software developer or an Network Administrator (Taking my MTA exam 98-366 Networking Fundamentals early next January). I'm in BPA, so I have to use my HTML and CSS knowledge to learn to make a website. Yes, I'm beginning with Java.

Welcome Sophie! I too enjoy Dr. Pepper and Skyrim (though I enjoyed Oblivion and Morrowind more tbh).

Welcome to the boards!

CodeBlocks for Java?

Why not Eclipse or NetBeans? CodeBlocks wasn't fun when I was doing C development.

I have been thinking on switching to Eclipse for my C++, but I'm still unsure.
