The first Conjuring just frustrated me. I feel like the whole thing could have been avoided if they'd just had some flashlights.

I haven't seen the first. I only went because my friend really wanted to see it. These new horror movies aren't really any good imho.

I still want to see the Green Room, but I'm up in the air. I'm starting to think it looks like it's Gore Porn, which is less appealing than watching 2 hours of Blues Clues or Barney.

Honestly can't tell if you mean gore as in blood and violence or the former vice president and senator.

I think the latter is preferable to the former, but both are inferior to teletubbies. Or watching paint dry. Or listening to Steve Jobs hype a product.

Rented the Coen Brothers' Hail Caesar! over the weekend. Not quite what I was expecting, but entertaining nonetheless.

Our apartment has movies in the pavilion. Had some friends over, made a ton of popcorn, & watched Creed. Because of the base & Stallone's low tone, couldn't hear it, but we watched it.

Watched Memoirs of a Geisha this weekend. One of the very few chick flicks I like.

So I have a new favorite horror movie.
Like this is better than my previous favorites, the Stand and the Apt Pupil.
In fact, this one might find its way to my top 5 movies ever.
The movie is "The Green Room." It has a great cast - Anton Yelchin (played Chekov in the Star Trek reboot, died a few weeks ago
), Alia Shawkat (Maeby in Arrested Development), and Sir Patrick Stewart is the big villain.
It's the story of a punk band on tour who books a last minute gig at a bar in the back woods of Oregon. The bar is the hangout of a neonazi gang (lead by Patrick Stewart), and the band discovers a murder and is held hostage. I asked a friend to watch it with me but she declined because she thought it looked like torture porn or gore porn - and it's neither.
It has some tense drama, some really good suspense, and amazing dialogue. All in all, I had high hopes and low expectations, and it's even better than I'd hoped. It feels real, there was no necessary suspension of disbelief.
There were a couple points where it was somewhat gory, but nothing over-the-the-top. I thought Scrubs was more gruesome.
I was trying to describe it to my friend, and the best I came up with is that it's like From Dusk Til Dawn crossed with the Apt Pupil - instead of a bar full of vampires it's a bar full of skinheads.
I never base my opinion on critics or reviews, but after watching it I looked it up to see what others thought: 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, that's pretty damned good I think.
It's really a great movie, I think the trailer didn't do it justice. I recommend it if you're into human horror, or thrillers.

'The Green Room' is sitting on my Plex Server to be watched for a few weeks. Looking forward to it.
I thought the trailer looked really good, so if it didn't do it justice... I'm excited to see it.
Unfortunately, as with all horror/suspense films, it's a genre I don't usually watch as I have to be in the "right mood". So who knows when I'll actually get around to it.
Also, if you like horror. My buddy Adny and I were talking about horror one time and I made the mistake of saying, "no good horror movie has ever taken place on a boat", to which he responded, "oh yeah? There was actually one, and you're going to watch it now."
The movie is called "Triangle", it's very B-movie acting and what not, but DAMN was it a good movie.
