What is the best language for a basketball stat program?

Posted 26 December 2015 - 09:08 PM

Hello,

I have charts and sheets I would like to turn into a program. I would like the program to generate reports, pull information, charts to communicate with state sheets, and much more. I am new to writing and want to start. What would be the best language to make the program itself user friendly and graphically appealing?

All of that can be handled in any language. Do you have knowledge in any programming language? If not, pick one.

We have a pinned language recommendation thread. You should check that out.

Frankly, if you do not have any programming experience, you are setting the bar unrealistically high with your requirements. It will take roughly a year of committed learning before you are ready to tackle a project of your desired scope.

If you want it to be a website you could consider ASP.NET/C# or PHP. The look would depend on HTML and CSS. If I were you I would put all the data in a database. If it's just for your use then you wouldn't need anything more than a database and then write queries to get the information you want.

You are going to need to learn to program or hire someone to do it.

A database stores data, nothing else. So, it is not user friendly or not. It is a place to store data.

The program's user friendliness is based on behind the scenes programming and the designed GUI.

So, you can create the GUI inside of Access.

Agreed, just create a GUI in access using forms. I'm not a big fan of MS Access but it can be useful for personal use but it's not very scalable in my opinion. Just depends on your end-game goals.

What is another effective database? I want to be able to do player efficiencies and add information quickly and through shot charts.

A big question, is this for personal use or for others to use as well. Because if it's just for you leaving it in access might be fine but if you want a web application for others to use it completely changes the approach.

Need to understand the end-game.
