You should probably find a chance to re-read "So Long and Thanks For All The Fish" this week. Douglas put a chapter in there just for you.

Waiting patiently for my review today. I will find out a lot of things besides how much my raise and bonus are. I have a promotion and office up in the air right now that I'm hoping I'll get. It's a good sign that the Senior VP over my department stopped by my desk today to tell me that I am doing a really good job with the team I took over in January. Also wishing I had brought claritin because my eye looks like I've got pink eye. Not a great thing to be dealing with when your going into code reviews and meetings all day. On the bright side two of my projects go to production tonight so that's good.

Okay I'll vent here. So I've been experiencing what I feel is, surprise surprise, sexism. I've been working on coverages solely for months, and this morning I overhear the lead and a male coworker talking about something with coverages, so I walk up behind them like "sup, buddies. What have you got here?" Coverages. They were doing something which completely undermines and nullifies what I've spent the last 2 months alone working on without telling me. I brought this up and lead was like
lead: "didn't I say don't do that we're doing this?"
me: "Uh, no, you did not!"
lead: "Well, we're doing this"
me: "So wont this basically make everything I've been doing essentially useless?"
lead: "I'll tell you in a month or so"
WTF?! Not to mention a few times I had great ideas and lead said they were stupid and nobody would work with it. Then the boss comes along to him alone a week later and says "oh hey, I think [basically my idea in a nutshell] would be neat" then all of a sudden lead is like "oh yeah, that is neat" then goes and implements it by himself secretly, then when he presents it to the team like it's his idea and work and takes all the kudos and credit. Like what the fucking hell, man?! Normally we have a group chat where we all bullshit during the day, but I declined because I'm just so livid, that I feel like I'm about so say/do something stupid that I'll regret later, so I'm thinking silence is the best policy atm.

That sounds like a pretty toxic work environment. You should come to Boston and be a junior developer on my team instead.
Or, failing that, take this upstairs - talk to HR, or someone you find reasonably trustworthy who is sufficiently senior to the lead that you feel like you'll get satisfaction. Hopefully there is someone in the hierarchy who will be capable of understanding that this hurts the forward progress of the whole business and is capable of driving forward with this once the problem is brought to their attention.
Some useful talking points:
- this sort of shennanigans wasted X number of developer days in duplicated work
- poor communication in a team means poor product
- there are a lot of women who can write code. If your shop is a boys' club, it is hard to get that talent.

Yes he is Indian. Okay, so I might be overreacting, because of the way he worded it. What they're doing is eerily similar to the shit I was doing, but there's just enough unoverlapped to make me not as mad, but most of my work could have basically eliminated most of their work for the rules part if they'd have just listened. Whatever. I'm working on another card now and saying fuck it to the coverages card right now. I'm so done, I need a break.

I had two students drop my class already, so I'm down to three students. The prerequisites for my class include a junior level discrete math class, and a junior level data structures and algorithms class. One student didn't have the algorithms course and had purged all knowledge of the discrete math course. The other student was more engaged and had the prereqs, but I think retained very little from them. However, he is still coming to class (at 8:30) to take notes and is clearly engaged in the material. So I take that as a compliment, because it indicates that he thinks I'm a good instructor!
We finished our mathematical preliminaries yesterday, and got through regular languages and DFAs today. We will hit Kleene's theorem tomorrow!

Agreed, assholes come in all varieties, but the description reminded me of few incidents (back in the day; maybe a Wednesday?) in terms of how I saw Indian males interacting with equally positioned women in the ol' IT department.

Just to add another branch to this, this is a massive process smell.
(1) you were working on a thing for two months, on your own? In my world, we call that a boulder and we break that ticket up until it's a bunch of tickets that fit into a week or less. Ideally, those are not all worked by the same person. (silo-busting)
(2) you were not aware of what your team mates were working on, and they were not aware of what you were doing? This is why we do standups. This problem should have been known the day it came up.
