:( lo siento.

And I agree about the standups. I've been pushing for tester standups for a year and nobody wants to do it. I'm about to just stand up in the middle of the pod and give my updates whether they wanna hear me or not. And we had the whole suite sectioned up. One tester did drivers, another did billing, another did etc and etc. I picked coverages because I thought it was easy but actually it was the hardest.

Huh, dep; that reminds me of my 2nd-to-most recent attempt at getting a girlfriend. She told me that she didn't want to date me until she "was ready to settle down". Great. So, I'm a good guy and all, but not interesting enough to date for fun; only marriage material...

I'd have pushed that one. Like, if the reason to not get with you is because it would mean settling down, that implies she sees more than just a casual romance.

So yeah, too good to date for fun.

More likely, it implies that she sees no romance and she's trying to let you down gently. She either doesn't want to settle down anytime soon... or doesn't want to settle down with you specifically.

Speaking as one who spent many, many years serial dating, I have two things to point out here: (1) if it comes to light that I've been cyberstalked beyond a Facebook search, you will never hear from me again, and (2) I've used "not ready to settle down" as an excuse more times than I can count... doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you, doesn't mean I don't like you, just means I don't feel the butterflies I'm looking for and I'm going to keep looking until I find them. "Pushing" me would have driven me away as quickly as cyberstalking.

Just throwing that out there... though now that I'm all settled with neo, I can hunt down all the side strange I want while the little lady is busy with her sewing.

That's not entirely a bad idea. You could do them via email. "Hey, guys, here's what I'm working on, in case you're interested!"

Then, if nothing else, nobody has any excuse for doubling up on your work. And if others pick up on the idea, then you move to a more traditional in-person standup. I've heard of people doing this sort of thing in other situations, for example introducing a personal issue tracker and giving people access to it in organizations that don't have effective issue tracking. "Sure I can do that - do you mind just adding it to my queue, so I'll have it in one place with all my other work?"

Of course, that leads to "Sure, boss, I can promote that issue. Where do you want it in the queue, and what other issues should it displace?"

And pretty soon you've introduced real team management, for at least one person on the team. Leading by example can be fun!

Homer: You suck-diddily-uck, Flanders. Gimme that.
[Grabs the bell from him]
Homer: Hear ye. Hear ye. Ye olde town crier proclaimed crappy by all. Chooseth Homer Simpson, and he shalt rock thy world.
Chief Wiggum: Good God, he is fabulous.
Principal Skinner: He's embiggened that role with that cromulent performance.

I used to have my own personal stickynotes and masking tape kanban task board on the empty half of my desk, but people kept messing with it (and implying behind my back that I was stuck-up and hollier-than-thou) so I removed it. :(

Also, it doesn't help you looking for side strange if you're telling me you're going out looking for side strange, my love.

All I can say to that then is: don't fucking lie. "I'm not interested" sure as fuck sounds better than the implications of "when I'm ready to settle down."

And yea, also why I haven't exercised my google fu. Just Facebook and talking to mutual friends - that's how I learned she's married.

The UCLA shooting is getting more strange by the moment..

Quote

  • A student and a professor died in a murder-suicide in an engineering building at UCLA on Wednesday morning, Los Angeles police say.
  • The gunman has been identified as Mainak Sarkar, a former doctoral student who had accused the victim of stealing his computer code and giving it to someone else, the LAPD said Thursday.
  • Sarkar, a resident of Minnesota, appears also to have killed a woman in a small town in that state and had a "kill list," that she was on, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said.
  • The professor was William S. Klug, 39, an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, according to multiple sources. He was on the "kill list."
  • A second UCLA professor, who has not been identified, was also on the list. He is safe.

Quote

The Los Angeles police chief told KTLA that "a dispute over intellectual property" was tied to the UCLA shooting, which put the campus on lockdown for hours Wednesday.
"Everybody tries to look for a reason for this. Well, first of all, there is no good reason for this," [Los Angeles Police Chief ] Beck told the station. "This is a mental issue, mental derangement, but it was tied to a dispute over intellectual property."
Sarkar felt the professor he killed had released information "that harmed him," he told KTLA. "UCLA says this is absolutely not true. This is the workings of his imagination."
