What is it like as a Student Information Systems Specialist?

Posted 06 April 2016 - 05:19 PM

I've worked with a few Student Info Systems (SIS) in the past as a user. From the side of supporting and configuring (like as a career), what does a typical day look like? I figure in a system that is production-ready you are just fixing bugs and working on upgrades but something tells me there's more to it than that. My experience with SIS is in an educational setting (just stating if it wasn't assumed) so I'd like to know what it is like working as a specialist from that point of view. Also it doesn't seem like a common job (depends on location I guess) so would someone classified as a Junior Applications Dev and a Mid-level Computer Technician generally be able to migrate over to a field like this?
