Well it was my b-day yesterday so I have just came back from buying cakes for the office.
Today I am playing catch up as fast as I can as I have been off since friday and my dev work has hit a rock, need to perform a back fit and just been told I will be helping out with the service pack.

Dep, is the spark the car you got when the company snow plow totaled the old one?
My wife wants me to get a smaller vehicle, well more fuel efficient anyway. But especially now that I deal with snow, I like SUVs, and they are inherently less fuel efficient.

Ya the Spark was the replacement for my Yaris that got snow-plowed by the company.
Yaris
Spark
Cruze
The Spark was nice - I liked it, but I had a lot of small complaints that added up. When I was looking at the Cruze I addressed each of them.
My only complaint about the Cruze so far is, get this: there's no volume control on the steering wheel.
Oh boo hoo.
The Spark had a variable rate transmission, which means it accelerated for shit. The mpg wasn't nearly as good as you'd hope - about 25 city 30 hwy. The Cruze is supposed to pull 30 city and 42 hwy.
Best of all, the back seat folds down and I can fit all my gear in it! That huge 4 foot hard case for my bass that I had to angle and wedge into the back seat? Slides right on.
It's also quite maneuverable. When I test drove it I did a U-Turn on a 2 lane road to see how tight it was. It's not as good as the Spark, but I didn't expect it to be. Still very nice.

Nice. As for MPG, mine is luck if it gets 11 mpg. I have a 5.6l V8. I am thinking of a Q5 or Q7, staying with the SUV theme. I wouldn't mind a A5 or S5, but I don't want to deal with a cars low height in snow, and actually want either a 4x4 or all wheel drive on my next purchase.

Thursday
Me: "See these three errors? We looked into it and that's only 3 of about 300. We need to fix those."
Boss: "Ok. Get the script together."
Friday
Me: "Script is ready."
Boss: "Ok. Put it in for Hot Fix."
Me: "Uh, that doesn't give us enough time to test it, this should be service release"
Boss: "hot fix"
Monday
Me: "Ok I just spent 6 hours manually testing 120 of the 1400 possible cases, and another 2 putting together a script to iterate over the rest and test the relationships. It's checked in for hot fix"
Tuesday - build
Today
Boss: "WHY DID WE MAKE A SWEEPING CHANGE TO THIS TABLE IN HOT FIX THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SERVICE RELEASE"
/facepalm
I'm going to get shit for this, I guarantee it. This is the one I was bitching about the other day that was going to take 70+ hours just to create the test cases.
Not cool dude, not cool. I said what we were doing and suggested the route they say I should have taken but overrode.
I'm kinda pissed.

As long as you have it in email form, you should be okay.

Dep: That is exactly why I email people after having a verbal conversation asking them for there confirmation this is what they want.
Then when shit goes wrong I print the email out and just leave it on my desk for when they walk over I just point at it and keep listening to my music.
If people don't want to listen in the beginning I don't want to listen at the end.

yea, no email trail. Lesson learned. In the 3 meetings I've had on it this morning though me and all the DBAs have said "we all said this was a bad idea for a hot fix" so hopefully having their support on this will help

@Dep; You should have that in written signed by your boss that he approved of this.
Regardless, as others have pointed out. You should have a conversation in your email.
If not, take it like a man. Next time walk in to the boss's room with a spy pen and a voice recorder and a paper with fine printed agreement saying "should you deny any of this conversation ever happened, you here by agree that I will not get shit for this," and ask him to sign the dotted line.
