Questions on AWT Swing and javaFX

Posted 20 July 2016 - 11:22 AM

hi guys,

I am new to java programming and was reading a bit about GUI's
my tutorials im following are now moving onto GUI's etc

The section im starting now is starting to get into Swing

i read a few things about all this and have a few questions:

1) Should I bother learning Swing at all?

2) Do you need to know how to use AWT to use Swing?

3) Should I rather find some good JavaFX tutorials and focus on that instead?

4) Should I just learn it all?

thanks

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I do believe Swing has been depreciated. Find a more up-to-date GUI option for Javafx.. though I would imagine skimming over Swing wouldn't hurt if you ever come across it.. Quite a few legacy UI around with it.

I would advocate pursuing Android development instead. Java is not really being used for desktop applications anymore, outside of the K-12 and college admissions testing industry.

Pick up an Android book and start going through it. This really is something you need to learn, not a quick trick.
