Using one sprite to create several bigger sprites

I'm currently working on a little project, where I need to create tetris-like sprites based on one single square.
So I need to create something like this:

Using this:

At the moment I create a Texture2D 2D array(matrix) and inserted the values manually, however the inbuild XNA method build won't draw arrays, only pure Texture2Ds.

It is very important I can create these objects and move them as one, and in a manner where I can return to each individual square at a later point(i.e. in an array).

Am I going all wrong around this, or do I just need to modify my method?
