Be aware that when you work in the software industry, about 95% of the time, you will be working an a group project. It is very rare now that somebody will be working solo on a project. Additionally, if the company you work for believes in XP (extreme programming), you'll be pair programming so you'll have programming buddy.

I for one am getting annoyed being a survey subject for someone that spams forums for their homework and leaves.

the project manager (the person who wants the final product/result of the project)?

Project managers don't want the project, stakeholders and product owners do. the relationship is important, but you may want to understand what you should be asking, before you actually do.
