The "why should you be chosen" interview question

Posted 14 November 2016 - 12:09 PM

I have a potential internship interview, and was googling around for more info and one of the question was something like this: "Our program attract the best and brightest, why should you be chosen?"

Like how do you answer these types of question? I'm sure every student is probably answering the answer way...

Honestly, I think those are stupid questions. What was the point of the questions that I asked the interviewee if not to determine whether they should be chosen?

In general, they are an opportunity to describe how you stand out - in particular things you do on your own time, unique experience that not everybody may have, things you've accomplished at past jobs, undergraduate research, etc.

Exactly that: this is a chance for you to make any part of your case that you think hasn't been made, or to sum up the case you've made already. Think of it as your closing argument, if you're a fan of courtroom drama.

That's the problem.. I don't think I've done anything unique or special. I just wish these questions don't get asked.
I may not have done or have unique experiences, but I can adapt well, learn things quickly and a hard worker. I wish those things have more weight vs having unique experiences that no one else have. Because those unique experiences can be learned.

I guess it could. But aren't these big companies expecting something unique?
I'm guess I'd have to give examples of why I'm those things right? Would it be best to use past internships or group projects

You always want to expand on answers. What have you adapted to? Was it difficult? What did you learn from the experience?
