Yeah, i know what you mean. This problem is for national efficiency and security. Companies that use windows and Microsoft Office are paying for lower quality software. Open source saves them money and time.

Then the schools fall into the MS trap, using Windows teaches ALLOT less, and it cost the schools money. Using something like Linux would:

1. Teaches the students more about how an OS works.
2. Saves the school money (that could be used for better wages or supplies).
3. Shows that there isn't JUST windows.
4. Teaches everyone about the open source world.
5. Is safer, selinux seems pretty damn secure, that plus the ability to configure the linux kernel as you want would give the schools amazing possibilities.

Im sure that you guys can come up with a better list of why linux should be used by schools. :)

It could fix the problem we are talking about!

LINUX FOR THE WIN!

I know plenty of people who are very smart, but just don't know how to use computers very well. It's not so much smart vs. dumb, but where a person's interests lie. If someone is interested in literature, philosophy and art, but not computers, that doesn't make them stupid, just interested in different areas.

Suggesting linux to school's is pointless since I already tried to do so, they actually go this way why would we need a linux we are not a web server company, actually I've tried to explain about customizing linux and it being free and that its more secure, now they are replacing almost all the computer because they've been fed up with viruses, so yeah for some reason they fail to get it that linux is more secure...do some research school administrators.

I remember in primary school our I.T teacher introduced Red Hat 7.0 to our computer room with about 5 computers Linux, and about 20 others Windows. It was all controlled by a network boot with a floppy disk. The thing is, we only had these couple of computers for about a year or two, then for some ungodly reason they discontinued it. :(

Now at high school, there is no mention of any sort of Unix Based system which is really, really saddening. We are being born and bred Microsoft fanatics.

Think about this...
Write a simple program like:

#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main()

{

  cout << "Press any key to continue and any other key to stop.\n";
  cin.get();
  system ("cls");
  cout << "You have selected ' Destroy Harddrive'.\n";
  cout << "Thank you for using Windows.\n";
  cin.get();
}

Then compile and place the exe on a flash drive. Name it Virus.exe
Then put it on a school computer. Execute it then leave. And watch what everyone does from a distance. LOL

Wow...Im bored.

Yeah, MS is doing it on purpose! They pay the schools to use ONLY their software. I think this requires the governments attention, really.

Anti-Trust Lawsuit.

I asked our I.T teacher at our school if I could code in C++ while everyone else coded in VB.NET. Apparently, the technicians wouldn't want to support C++ because 'it would be too much work'.

Also Delta_Echo, your last get() call won't work because there is no other lines of code after it.

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main()
{
	cout << "Press enter to continue.\n";
	cin.get();
	system("cls");
	cout << "You have selected ' Destroy Harddrive'.\n";
	cout << "Thank you for using Windows.\n";
	cin.get();
	return 0;
}

Also, you forgot the most important command to Format the hard drive (well, probably the closest thing to destroying it anyway).

<DO NOT TRY THIS CODE, THIS IS PURELY FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES>
system("format c: /Q /AUTOTEST");

</DO NOT TRY THIS CODE, THIS IS PURELY FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES>

This will erase the drive without prompt. It probably wouldn't work with Windows open anyway.

:genius:

Seriously, I've got too many peers who think otherwise and it gets annoying sometimes.
