Remote Keyboard via smartphone to PC

Posted 14 February 2017 - 02:49 AM

Hello, i want to program some application, which will detect tapping a screen in my smartphone and will send Key signal to PC.
For example: If i touch anywhere in this app, it will send "X" key signal to pc and in pc it will be like, if i preased X on my PC keyboard.

I'm not interested in programming whole keyboard. Just one or two keys.

I tried to search some answers, but I don't even know, what is it I'm looking for.
Do you have any advices?

Thanks in advance.

Is this PC app known to the person it is installed, or what exactly?

It shouldnt be any secret app or anything like that.
As i see it, it would be application on both phone and PC.
(Host app and client app maybe?)

So there will be needed applications turned on in both devices.

I should probably mention, that it doesn't really matter, if it is wireless or via USB. (USB may be better choice, but I'm not sure)

There are so many existing apps to give you a remote mouse/keyboard/trackball... presentation remote... many have programmable function keys...
For example: https://itunes.apple...d385894596?mt=8

Just get one of the existing programs. Its totally silly to spend 5,000 hours learning how to be a programmer so you can write a 1-2 button remote app.

I actually want to do it because of programming. I have some skills in programming. This should be a little project for me to advance further and develop new skills. The think is, that i want look deeper in communicating between devices right now.

Ok. So let's take it one step at a time.

Have you built applications for the PC? Do you understand OOP, MVVM and event driven design?
After that... Have any of your PC application done any communication with services or even with other PC applications -- Before tackling communication with NON-pc applications?

Next... Have you created any mobile applications for Android or iOS - I presume the mobile app you want to run will be on one of those. Do you want to make the mobile app truely native? IE: You're going to learn Swift to code it for iOS and java to code it for Android? Or are you going to take the C#/XAML/MVVM route and do it in Xamarin so the same code is cross-platform?
Once you comfortable making mobile apps in general... Same as the desktop app: Can you do any service communication on the mobile app?

Once you have worked out the various pieces for each side of the communication individually... Then apply that knowledge to having each side talk to each other.

As you can see, what you're calling "a little learning project" isn't really all that little, and isn't really a beginner project. Now... If you're really more well versed in development than "I have some programming skill", maybe you're ready to move up to this level of project. Only you really know.

Oh, that was actually very helpful.
As I see it after reading this, I will look deeper in communication with services in both PC and Android. Individually for now.
(Not really interested in iOS).
Also i need to investigate further MVVM. First time i read about it.
And also i will try out Xamarin, because i code in C#.

So, basically. I will look more into things you wrote about. Then, maybe later, i will come back to this.

Thank you very much, that was something I was looking for. :)
