Making Them Mad: a simplified introduction to spatiotemporal patterns

Posted 27 July 2017 - 03:06 PM

Hello, and thank you for your attention. I just finished a non-commercial app, and I would greatly appreciate your opinion. I've never done anything so ambitious before.

The purpose of the app is to introduce every parent to spatiotemporal patterns. I've been using them to teach my children for years. The app (the "help" text) is providing few more links.

It's supposed to be a "responsive" design, attractive and simple. I only have 3 lessons yet. Some patterns may be too difficult to young audience. My youngest girl would probably crack most of them at around 4, but she was well prepared.

Here are the links, and there is plenty of background information available through them

Not a fan. The screen goes dark to light.. sometimes with a click.. sometimes not.. thought single clicks would do things, but seems two or more are needed..

Third link goes to an empty puzzle.. I think?

Thank you very much, and would you please spend some more time with me?

With a reasonably fast Internet connection, I've never seen the screen going from dark to light. What's your computer and your browser? What part of the screen is changing and when is it happening?

I can imagine that more than one clicks may be (1) a normal (and annoying) browser behavior or (2) the result of a poor explanation.

1. Browsers miss clicks when the cursor moves, even slightly. I don't know what to do about it yet. If a click was missed, the clicked upon board does not change.

2. Once STARTED, a challenge advances automatically in 1 second after you matched it on the big board. You click on the big board, watch for the changes on the small board and click on the big board to match them. If this was not clear, I need to write a better instruction or, maybe, try to reduce the delay. In the beginning, I was playing this game of challenges on two toy pegboard.

I brought back the 3rd challenge. My fault, please excuse me.

IE, Edge, Firefox, Chrome.

RE #1 - yeah, I am certain I have browser clicking down. Granted I am new at this internet thing. ;)

Well, I reduced the delay between the user's click and the small board showing the next step to 0.2s. Also, reworked the explanations. Can't test with the slower network because mobile Web is down today.
