[runtime error]

Damn n00bies!! i left my computer alone with some computer illiterate people and i told them they could use my speakers to plug into my laptop to watch a movie. any way i get home from work i try to turn on my comp and the comp turns on but nothing appears on the monitor. any way i fixed that problem it turned out some how the video card got unplugged. But after several restarts later due to error messages i get one error message that frightens me. 'root.tty' invalid user. and when the user menu appears there are no users present. try logging in as root or any user it fails everytime. it seems like i am screwed however i was wonderin if any of you had any suggestions. i am using suse linux 8.0 right now. oh and i don't have the disks for it so a rescue install is out of the question.

also if you can't come up with a solution to my problem could you give me a link to make a start up disk for linux? thanx i appreciate it!
