I guess I'm picking up a side gig to build an inventory system with integrated mobile barcode scanning. Which is funny because I'm currently in the planning stages of building my own inventory system with integrated mobile barcode scanning.

The problem with this side gig is that the mobile platform they want to use is iOS and I've never worked with iOS and really never wanted to.

Does anyone have experience with development for Apple phones? Is it really worth me putting the effort in to learning it for this application?

Playing Warped Tour was a literal dream come true. It was amazing. So much fun.

I left Tuesday night, got to Akron at about 3am, finally managed to fall asleep at about 5:30 and got up with my alarm a half hour later at 6. Got to the festival at 9am, found our stage and set up our booth next to it, wonderful time.

Got home yesterday and crashed hard. Been worn out. Worked today. Got home and back on my PC for the first time since Tuesday.

...and it won't start.

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with it. Signs point to either
A) a virus (I doubt this, in part because there's been no activity that would catch one)
B) a failing hard drive (possible, I'm running on a 6? 8? year old SSD)
C) a bad windows update (most likely, imo - I ran a bunch of updates on Monday)

I'm in safe mode right now setting up a usb boot disk to run repair tools. Thought I'd hop on here.

Also I didn't look back to see if she said anything but I'm totally gonna narc on her if she didn't and say grats Neo on getting so far in that hackathon!

I looked back after posting - lol

good she said something, I figured she would have

so I was looking through event logs yesterday and it's definitely gotta be a bad update I think

Only thing that would be touching the service registration, and that's become corrupted, and I don't even know what else.

So I went to create a boot disk with the tool on microsoft.com and luuuuuulz - here's an example of more MS stupidity: it can't be created from Safe Mode. What kind of stupid shit is that?

So I'm debating on if I want to go back to Win7 or just remove Windows entirely and throw Linux on here. Irony: I can create installation media, just not boot media.

Makes sense.. Safe mode is a super parred down, bare bones, startup.

Do you have the install media? Perhaps boot with that and 'repair'.

Nope. I did the free Windows 10 Upgrade from Windows 7.

I dug up my 7 key and confirmed it's still valid, I've got the appropriate ISO and I'm making a drive to install from right now.

I'm also making a gNewSense drive.

If I run into a single problem with the Windows installation I'm just installing Linux and calling it a day.

But the fact that I can do all this from Windows Safe Mode, but can't create a boot disk image, is absurd. It suggests that Windows needs unsafe access to the disk to create a generic set of tools that should run on any Windows 10 computer.

*shrug* Do what'cha gotta do.

It sounds like you can make install media.. where the 'boot to repair' is stashed. I would suggest that.

Yea I saw the repair tools are in the Win7 ISO I used to make the boot drive. Tried running it but
1) I had a Win7 image because I have a Win7 key (no idea how I'd get a legit copy of 10 installed after using this key for the free upgrade to 10 - Microsoft, it's not just MSDN that tells you nothing useful!) The Win7 tools couldn't fix anything in the Win10 installation.

2) It turns out the SSD I was installed on was failing. I formatted it, reinstalled, and got a similar error. Ripped it out, formatted my Games SSD, installed onto that, and all is well.

So BIG shout out to my Secret Satan a few years ago for getting me an SSD! Just saved my ass from going back to Hard Disk.

Gonna have to reinstall the basics - drivers and Visual Studio - but fortunately the only thing I kept on that drive was my OS. Literally nothing of importance was lost.

No we passed round 2, that's how we made it to the finals.

Had to go to ER on saturday, had really bad vertigo. They said something broke off inside my inner ear and was fuxxing my equilibrium. I've basically just been sleeping 24/7 because of the pills. They also gave me a shot in the butt, and now my butt hurts.
