I sent this to my team. They lamented their sold out status.

Oh my goodness.. if they only knew someone with a sewing machine, oodles of time, and who would charge a modest fee.

Harumph.

You have more time now than you ever will again.

ahhh "power" users

There's a fail response coming through integration,I investigate and find that business process is not being followed and the request is being completed and submitted without a resolution code. The end system needs this resolution code to complete the job. Ergo, missing resolution code = fail response

Power users response - no i think you're wrong, i think it's the forward slash in the data, investigate that.

So, at work we have a programming assignment (well, not my team, but for core-product team). I submitted my entry to it just to see how I stack up in performance (the problem space cares about speed, scalability, and correctness of results). I got back a chart with the results (lower is better): https://photos.app.g...HWRWhLyzV7uXU02

The Blue bar is the reference implementation.
The Red bar is the fastest candidate's submission.
And finally, the Orange bar is my submission.

I find it funny that mine scales slightly better than the "fastest candidate" submission (as you can see at the end, where mine overtakes theirs). I have also heard that the next-fasted submission is about twice as slow as mine, so I am in the top-3 with it currently.

Now, I am just wondering what type of black magic the "reference" code is doing to get that much of an improvement...

I am not 100% certain on the axes either - I believe the X axis is number of threads, and the Y axis is time it took to run (in seconds), but I could be wrong. That being said, when I run my code on my work machine (with a lot of test cases) I continue to improve up to 10 threads (which I don't exceed since I figure I can't get much further without having contention with my kernel, desktop, etc. - I only have 6 cores).

Hubs had his car in the shop last Thursday for his annual state inspection. It didn't pass because of a small hole rusted through the frame.

So, Friday, he dropped it off with a friend of ours who does body work for extra cash on the side. The guy had it all weekend. We picked it up Sunday evening.

Monday morning, I left for work as per usual. I made it into the city, found an amazing space at the park and ride, and was awaiting the bus to take me into the bowels of university hell when my phone rang. Hubs was at the gas station two blocks from our house, stopped for a cup of coffee, and couldn't get his car started. I climbed into my car and drove all the way back. We got his car started, he went to work, I went home to work in pajama bottoms and slippers. All was well.

He finished his day. I finished mine. My phone rang. His car wouldn't start. I drove out with the code tester to figure out what was causing the trouble: no codes. Ugh. Drove him home. Emailed my boss to let her know I'd be working from home a few more days.

Tuesday, drove him to work, came home to work for the day. Drove out to pick him up and figure out how to get a tow truck out to get his car without it costing an arm and a leg. The car fired up without an issue... so, one problem solved, I guess. Anyway, I followed him directly to the garage to drop it off.

So, here we are. It's Wednesday. I'm still working from home and driving him to work. His car is still in the shop. He thinks it's the starter, but I've got my money on fuel injector. Regardless, however, every penny this car costs us right now is coming directly from the Christmas gift fund for our friends, family, and kids. So, you know, fun times.

Debating on how to approach the greenhorn with a list of suggestions for him to plink at regarding abstracting some classes, making interfaces, and so on.

Had a massive Nerf dart war. Some poor girl from the other side of the floor was walking to our side (probably for the restroom) and was tucking into a cubby to avoid getting hit. I had to call a cease fire for the civilian in the DMZ.

So last night at practice we discussed learning more covers cause currently we only do 3 - "One of my Lies" by Green Day, "Territorial Pissings" by Nirvana, and "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers.

So our newest one to work on is "I Want You To Want Zombies" - a mashup of "I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick and "Zombie" by the Cranberries. This shit's gonna be amazing. I'm currently listening to those two songs on repeat looking for good transition points.

also on the table: "Three's Company, Too" (theme to the TV show), "Pepper" by Butthole Surfers, "Everlong" by Foo Fighters, "Add It Up" by Violent Femmes, and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot

We're definitely doing Pepper, and we're going to swap instruments for it.

I know there's some Ohio folks reading this, so I'll put it out there - one of our alumni companies, Healthy Roots, is doing a casting call in Cincinnati for women to represent their product. Quoting from their outreach, the call is for "models and actors of African descent rocking natural hair styles (braids, puffs, etc.)." They are specifically looking for women in the age ranges 6-8, 14-18, 25-35, and 40-50.
If you know anyone who would be interested, they can drop a line to [email protected], with the subject line "Healthy Roots Casting Call".

Personal endorsement follows: I met the Healthy Roots team during the summer of 2015 when they were working out of our space, and they're super nice people who are trying to change the world in a small and subtle way, and I expect that it will be a fun and worthwhile outing for anyone who chooses to go.
