lol on both accounts.

But seriously, depending on the school's policy, you could face expulsion and possible criminal charges. Way to go.

If you just did it for bragging rights, then your stupidity will be your punishment. Why risk your education over computer crime? If you got caught, it all depends on who catches you. If you know the technicians at your school, they may cover your ass, but chances are they won't, and I wouldn't expect them too either.

Jjhagg, how could you face criminal charges if there was an exploit in the system? Wouldn't it be the administrator's fault? I know if you did something malicious with your privileges that could cause fines, but srsly.

Just because you didn't do anything bad on the account does not justify that what you did was still illegal and wrong. You very clearly admitted that what you did was wrong, so you knew that already.

Why are you bragging to us about it?

Fines? srsly? Doing something malicious once you're into a system is where things get really serious - for a worst-case type of scenario, read this. I'm certainly not a lawyer, so I'm just going by the IT policies of institutions that I've been at. But even just getting onto a system that you don't have priveleges for, even if you don't do anythin, can carry consequences.

To simultaneously echo and paraphrase jayman:

Don't hack. Don't exploit. Don't backdoor. And for the love of litigation and liability, don't tell us about it if you ignore that advice.

I didn't and don't have any intentions of hacking/exploiting/backdooring. Its useless and unforgiving if you have destroyed your future because you wanted Admin privileges on a PC.

I was more so saying, say the owner of the network placed a batch file on the user's desktop, which would restart explorer.exe and give the user SYSTEM privileges, and the batch file was named 'clickme.bat'. It would be insane to charge a student over that, not knowing what 'clickme.bat' even did. I'm sure they'd still be able to charge the student, claiming the student was using a hacking tool, but that would just be outright stupid. That is mistake created by the administrators.

As I was saying before, hacking is only good when its used in its original terminology (ethically); computer enthusiast.
