well I have computed the center of the square that bounds my space ship. the upper left coordinate is (-0.75,1.0) and the lower right is (0.75,-0.5) then the center point is (-0.75+0.75)/2 is 0.0 and (1.0-0.5)/2 is 0.25. the first is the X coordinate and the second is the Y coordinate.

I redrew my ship. my center X is (-0.75+0.75)/2 = 0.0 and center Y (0.75-0.75)/2 = 0.0. therefore the center is at the origin (0,0).

I have found the center of the square, I am unsure how to proceed further.

If it were me I think it would seem reasonable if you have an x and y why not do a translate to that point then rotate?
