That Reddit thread is everything this thread is not. Unpopular opinion backed up by explanation, citations, evidence, etc to try and prove their point. This thread is just the unpopular opinion without anything supporting it.

Following this (twisted) train of thought that if you contribute to open source, you are now indebted to forever supporting people who used your code, what about the poor guy who introduced Heartbleed. Is he forever compelled to help all organizations and individuals who lost things of value (monetary or intellectual property)?
